My Boy

Today seemed longer than usual. Cold and rain have that effect on me. Five straight days of rain make me almost crazy, especially since we have a nonworking dryer. Can you imagine the piles of dirty clothes for a family of eight? Wouldn't it be nice to live in the simpler days when everyone owned two outfits, one for everyday and one for good? Half of my cleaning problems would be solved! But, seriously, no complaining! We are blessed with an abundance!
Rain also makes little boys restless. At least this little boy:
He kept busy this morning with writing and paper airplanes and drawing.
Here's a cow he drew earlier this summer. He loves drawing cows.
He kept busy this afternoon building Lego creations, sword fighting bad guys and making music.
He can play a mean 2 string guitar
Then this evening he was bored. Not good. Let me back up a bit. Earlier when there was a break in the rain C went outside for a mandatory burn-off-some-energy jump on the trampoline. An older gentleman with a white beard and stout build stopped at our house. C spied him and yelled, "Hi! Santa Claus is coming to town!" I can't be sure if the Santa-look-a-like heard, but he gave C a wave as he left. C must have liked the facial hair look.

This boy keeps family time from being boring. Another funny moment today involved him and big brother A. They were wrestling which usually leads to C getting hurt. (It's not easy having a brother 11 years your senior.) As predicted, C ended up crying. Knowing how rough A is I, in my infinite mommy wisdom, allowed C to take a free punch at him. After C got his strike in, he started laughing. He said, "Haha...that was a joke cry!" What a boy.
Right now this clever little fellow is up sleeping in his bed sporting superman jammies......and a blue beard.

Beautiful Day

My day started chaotic and crazy, mostly because I was too tired to face it with both eyes open. My own fault. I stay up too late in the evenings. I can't help myself. I love this time of day! I love knowing all my family is home safe and sound. I also love that they are all tucked in, sound asleep! It is the time of day when I can do something... anything uninterrupted. I can eat a snack guilt free without little beggars. Don't get me wrong, I love my little beggars but they can eat their bowls of cereal in the morning. Mommy likes cereal after the sun goes down.

This little girl keeps me on my toes!
She has "mischief-maker" written all over that sweet face. I'm thinking she learns from the best.
I need to keep my eyes on him, more so than most. He is always coming up with new ways to have fun; in other words, make a mess or create an accident-in-the-making. He has now learned how to do wheelies on his bike. Needless to say, he has bandaids on both elbows and one knee.
This cry lasted for all about 20 seconds. I snapped the picture and he opened his eyes and said, "Erase it." It cracked me up. And I couldn't do it. He said, "You're not putting that on facebook." Then I was really laughing. To be fair, facebook means the computer/ internet to him. I promised him I wouldn't put it on facebook. :) Emmaly, the sweet sister that she is, fixed him right up. An ace bandage heals all wounds.
I feel like I am making real progress in my desire to have an uncluttered life. I will share about that sometime. I  woke up this morning with the feeling of chaos and being overwhelmed. After my day of realization and understanding, I have a new perception of chaos. It was a beautiful day!

C is for Corbin

I received my first flower of the season yesterday. It was hand picked and delivered by a special little man.
He came to me with his hands behind his back and said, "Mom, I have a surprise for you! Pick a hand!" I go weak in the knees for a shirtless little boy with sun-kissed cheeks! (The weather was an amazing 85 degrees!) This little guy has grown so much over the last few months. My last bouquet from him was just as sweet!
This picture makes me smile! He pedaled his little 3 wheeler to the ditch and picked Tiger Lilies for me. His sweet little grin, cocked head and shoes on the wrong feet are icing on the cake. He no longer needs 3 wheels  to cruise Bitting Lane. His new ride is a racing 2-wheeler.
After learning to look straight ahead and not down at his feet, this boy can sail! The boundaries consist of the apple tree and a rope we placed across the drive. And, believe me, this boy needs boundaries! And not just for biking but that is a whole 'nother story!

Mr. C may just be one of the orneriest four year olds around.

But he can sure melt his mommy's heart!
